Tirupattur:The scope for biotech students are enormous in the industrial sector as the syllabus is designed to produce graduates with broad exposure, said S.Manian, Director School of Life Sciences, Dean of Research, Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore.
Speaking at the inauguration of the national conference on 'Emerging trends in biotechnology and industrial opportunities,' 'Zenera’09' hosted by the Department of Biotechnology, Sri Nandhanam College of Engineering and Technology, Tirupattur, he said biotechnology was a synthetic subject and the syllabus is designed in such a way to bring out graduates with wide range of exposure.
Stating that India was a country with a combination of biodiversity and traditional knowledge and hence lot of industrial opportunities would be available for the biotech students, Dr Manian said.
Any country with a combination of biodiversity and traditional knowledge was bestowed with promising future. These two aspects determined the strength of a country. But the students need to develop good communication skills.
The academic standard had to be maintained and the students should not compromise on the quality of education imparted.
Besides, the educational institutions should encourage bringing in research projects. Research projects were a source of funding for the research institutions.
Added to this educational institutions should encourage the researchers to publish their projects in standard science journals. Any institution would not get recognition without publication.
