Coimbatore: A private educational research body has alleged that several teachers in government schools across Coimbatore district lack the necessary qualifications and teaching skills, particularly in English language instruction.

The Global Educational Trust India Pvt. Ltd , which conducted a study in March and May last year, submitted a formal complaint to the Coimbatore District Education Officer.

The study reportedly covered multiple government schools and assessed both teaching effectiveness and student learning levels.

According to the complaint, many English teachers were found unable to speak or teach even basic English, while teachers of other subjects failed to prepare lesson plans.

It also claimed that some headmasters were seen using mobile phones during working hours and did not engage respectfully with researchers who visited the schools. The organisation stated it has recorded evidence and is willing to submit it for official review.

In response, the Chief Education Officer, Coimbatore issued a circular to all heads of schools in the district, expressing regret over such allegations from an external agency. The circular urged school heads to act appropriately during visits by outsiders and advised them to avoid actions that could lead to similar complaints in the future.
