Madurai: “Happiness derived through Dharma is permanent,” said Dinamalar newspaper Joint Director R. Lakshmipathi, addressing the valedictory function of the state-level Chinmaya Gita recitation competition held in Madurai.
Organised by the Chinmaya Mission, the event saw 306 students—winners from district-level contests across 17 centres—competing in six categories. The competition was inaugurated by DAG Group Managing Director Raghuram, while Chinmaya Mission State President Swami Sridharananda offered his blessings.
Drawing an analogy between deep-rooted trees and strong cultural values, Lakshmipathi said that being firm in tradition and Dharma enables one to face challenges in life. “The happiness we gain from success or material things is temporary. True and lasting happiness comes from following the path of Dharma without attachment,” he said, urging students to understand the essence of the Bhagavad Gita while reciting it.
Swami Sivayogananda of the Chinmaya Mission said that those who view victory and defeat alike achieve real success in life. “We must study the Gita to live meaningfully,” he added.
Prizes were distributed to winners, and 12 top students qualified for the national-level competition to be held in Pune on November 29 and 30. The Chennai centre won the overall championship.
