The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal has invited applications from Indian and international candidates for admission to its PhD programmes for the 2026-27 academic year, Semester II, commencing in January 2027.

Departments and Research Areas:
Biological Sciences; Chemical Engineering; Chemistry; Data Science and Engineering; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Economic Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences; Physics.
Research areas include biotechnology, molecular biology, chemical engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, climate science, environmental studies, computer science, economics and the physical sciences. Eligibility:
Candidates with a four-year Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or Technology, a Master's degree in Science, or a Master's degree in Arts, Commerce or an allied discipline may be eligible, depending on the department. Applicants generally need at least 60% marks or a CGPA/CPI of 7.0 out of 10. Relaxation is available for eligible reserved-category candidates under the institute's rules.
Applicants must normally have a valid GATE score, UGC-NET/CSIR-NET qualification or another accepted national-level examination qualification. Certain candidates, including those with an Integrated M.Tech degree, B.Tech from an IIT or BS-MS from an IISER with a CGPA/CPI above 8.0, may qualify under specified exemptions.
