Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will help organize the fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS 4.0), a month-long cultural and intellectual confluence celebrating the deep-rooted ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi.

An initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the event will begin on December 2, 2025, and conclude with a grand finale in Rameswaram.

This year's theme, “Karpom Tamil” (Let us Learn Tamil), features the launch of the Tamil Karpom initiative, which will enable students from North India to learn Tamil in Tamil Nadu. IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) are the nodal institutions for KTS 4.0, with IIT Madras serving as the Knowledge Partner and managing logistics, including development of the official event website.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said the initiative seeks to spread awareness about the richness of the Tamil language across India. Tamil learning sessions will be organized for students and youth in Kashi, along with the Agasthya Expedition from Tenkasi to Varanasi tracing Sage Agasthyar's contributions.

Over 1,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu and 300 students from Uttar Pradesh will participate. Registrations are open at https://kashitamil.iitm.ac.in
