The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) and the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) have invited applications for their Joint Degree PhD Programme (JDP) for 2026. The programme offers candidates an opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research under the guidance of faculty members from both institutions.

Research Areas and Projects:
The joint PhD programme covers research in engineering, science, computing, economics and interdisciplinary fields. The projects include: Radiation-hardened in-memory computing for edge devices. Analysis of driven piles using numerical and experimental methods. Monetary policy and financial inclusion for climate-resilient agriculture. Bioremediation of water pollutants using metagenomics. Fatigue fracture in additively manufactured materials under hydrogen embrittlement. Catalyst development for upgrading bio-oil from biomass. Fracture and fatigue resistance of engineered lattice frameworks. Machine-learning approaches for submodular function maximisation. Photochemical isomerisation and cycloaddition of alkenes and allenes.

The participating departments and schools include Biosciences and Bioengineering; Chemical Engineering; Chemistry; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Humanities and Social Sciences; Materials Engineering; Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; School of Computing and Electrical Engineering; School of Civil and Environmental Engineering; School of Chemical Sciences; School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences; and School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

Eligibility:
Candidates must satisfy the minimum PhD admission eligibility criteria of the home institution specified for their chosen research project. They must also meet any additional academic qualifications or requirements prescribed by the relevant department, school, centre or project. Only candidates applying under the regular full-time category will be considered in this admission round. Eligible candidates receive an institute assistantship, subject to the applicable eligibility and fellowship conditions. Selection will be based on a written test and/or interview.
