Chandigarh: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar on Friday signed a memorandum of agreement with the Indian Army to introduce a Master of Technology (MTech) programme in defence technology for officers of the Armoured Corps Centre and School.
The jointly developed MTech (Defence Technology) programme aims to align academic training with military requirements and promote research and innovation in defence systems. The curriculum will emphasise applied learning, hands-on research and problem-solving to prepare officers for technology-driven roles.
IIT Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja said the partnership represents a paradigm shift in defence education by combining academic expertise with operational experience. He said the initiative would support India's self-reliance and “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
Officers completing the programme will receive an IIT degree and are expected to lead modernisation and indigenisation efforts in defence manufacturing. The agreement also provides for joint R&D in armoured vehicle technologies, advanced armaments and new materials.
