New Delhi: Workers in India are experiencing higher levels of workplace disruption than the global average but are also demonstrating stronger adaptability through upskilling and skills validation, according to the 2026 ETS Human Progress Report.

The report found that 86 per cent of Indian workers faced major workplace disruption in the past year, while 89 per cent are actively building new skills to stay relevant as job security shifts towards adaptability.

About 90 per cent of respondents said verified credentials are essential amid rapidly evolving skill demands, while 78 per cent reported using artificial intelligence (AI) tools primarily to remain competitive at work.

The study also noted that Indian respondents recorded a Human Progress Index score of 114.4, significantly higher than the global average of 96.7, indicating better perceived access to education and opportunities.

“In the face of a changing job landscape, workers are quickly adapting. Adaptability is becoming the new 'must-have' skill,” said Amit Sevak, CEO of ETS.

The report highlighted that AI integration is accelerating, with workers estimating that over 42 per cent of their tasks now involve directing AI tools.

It also underscored the growing demand for formal skill validation, with 93 per cent of respondents saying universities should supplement academic transcripts with skills-based credentials.
