Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) on Tuesday announced admissions for its inaugural batch starting August 2025, offering specialised courses in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector.
The institute, first announced by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in May this year, aims to build skilled talent for India's growing digital and creative economy.
The academic portfolio includes six courses in Gaming, four in Post Production, and eight in Animation, Comics, and XR. These programmes have been developed in collaboration with industry leaders to align with global standards and evolving technological trends.
IICT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of York, UK, to facilitate academic collaboration, faculty exchange, and global certification opportunities.
Global technology companies including Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and JioStar have extended support to the institute, contributing to curriculum development, internships, scholarships, incubation, and placement initiatives.
IICT CEO Dr. Vishwas Deoskar said the institute aims to make India a global hub in the AVGC-XR space by nurturing world-class professionals. The detailed curriculum is expected to be released later this month.
The IICT Governing Board comprises Sanjay Jaju, Vikas Kharge, Swati Mhase, Chandrajit Banerjee, Ashish Kulkarni, Manvendra Shukul, and Rajan Navani. Its Governing Council includes Munjal Shroff, Chaitanya Chichlikar, Biren Ghose, Bhupendra Kainthola, and Gaurav Banerjee.
With the global AVGC-XR sector poised for exponential growth, the institute aims to contribute significantly to India's ambitions in immersive and digital content technologies.
