Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, has successfully concluded its two-month-long 'Stop Diarrhoea' campaign, aimed at promoting awareness and prevention of diarrhoeal diseases among children under five.
The campaign, held from June 2 to July 31, was part of a nationwide directive by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to address the high prevalence of diarrhoea through extensive Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities.
Under the leadership of Director Dr. Vir Singh Negi, and coordinated by Nodal Officer Dr. Ramya Srinivasarangan, the initiative included health education sessions, ORS demonstrations, role plays, rangoli and quiz competitions, and community outreach. More than 500 students across schools and parents at health centres were sensitised on hygiene, sanitation, ORS use, and zinc supplementation.
Special sessions were conducted at JIPMER's Urban and Rural Health Centres. Continuous surveillance of diarrhoea cases was maintained throughout.
At the valedictory function, Dr. L.N. Dorairajan, Medical Superintendent, underscored the role of diarrhoea control in reducing under-5 mortality. Dr. Ananthalakshmi, Deputy Director (Health), noted that no diarrhoeal deaths were reported in Puducherry in the last five years.
