Puducherry: The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) organised a one-day national-level academic programme on hand surgery here, officials said on Tuesday.

The programme, titled “JIPMER Hand Course - Everything About Hand”, was held on February 1 and witnessed participation from orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, hand surgeons, postgraduate trainees and senior residents from across the country.

The course focused on providing a structured and evidence-based approach to managing common and complex hand conditions, with emphasis on clinical decision-making and surgical techniques.

It featured expert-led lectures, discussions on hand trauma, high-definition surgical video demonstrations and a hands-on workshop on tendon repair.

Sessions covered congenital anomalies, hand infections and reconstructive procedures.

A supervised workshop on tendon suturing techniques was a major highlight, organisers said.
