Puducherry: Educationist Jayaprakash Gandhi has emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) proficiency for future job opportunities, stating that mastering AI is essential for career growth in the evolving digital landscape.
Speaking at the Dinamalar Guide program, Gandhi noted that while Indian students are keen on studying AI, the country has yet to develop indigenous AI tools. “Institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and Anna University have not introduced AI at the undergraduate level. The key is not just studying AI but understanding how to apply it effectively,” he said.
He compared the current AI revolution to the early 2000s when learning computer usage was deemed crucial for all fields. “Today, regardless of the discipline, AI proficiency is a necessity,” he remarked.
Highlighting global advancements, Gandhi said AI and data science development remain limited in India, while technologies like Organized Intelligence (OI) and synthetic data science are gaining traction worldwide. Predicting significant disruptions, he stated that 80% of coding will change, 70% of jobs will become digital, and 72% of current technical skills will be obsolete by 2030.
He underscored the transformative potential of robotics, virtual reality in healthcare, and next-generation financial technologies such as IR-based money transfers, which are already in use in the U.S. He also identified computer science, cybersecurity, electronic communications, electrical electronics, and biomedical engineering as promising fields.
“A global technological revolution is imminent. Choosing courses aligned with future industry needs is critical,” he added.
