Vadodara: A medical college, with 150 seats capacity, for cancer treatment will be set up in Gujarat in 2010, Gujarat Health and Family Welfare Minister Jaynarayan Vyas said.

Inaugurating Netralaya Eye Hospital, being run by the Rotary Club of Baroda in Manjusar GIDC area here today, Vyas said that it is planned to create a facility for heart-cardiology treatment for children. At present, the disease affected children from the Gujarat have to go elsewhere outside the state for treatment, Vyas added.

Vyas also announced free distribution of spectacles to three lakhs children studying in schools of the state which will help in improving their eyesight. 7.5 lakh eye operations have been conducted in the state every year which is possible due to support from non government organisatiions and government bodies. Vyas said.

Vyas claimed that Gujarat stands first in the list of eye related operations in the country.
