New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to promote technological innovation and collaborative research in education, officials said.

The partnership aims to leverage emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), to enhance access, inclusivity, and quality across India's education system.

“This collaborative effort is vital to realising the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the new National Curriculum Framework. All textbooks need to be digital and available in 22 scheduled languages to promote learning in children's mother tongue,” said School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar.

He noted that IIT Madras, being one of the IT champions, will help develop content using gamification, animation, videos, and extended reality. “Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) and AI-driven pedagogical tools must be created to support lesson design, assessments, and future skill development,” he added.

Under this MoU, NCERT and IIT Madras will collaborate on developing and disseminating high-quality educational content, continuous professional development of teachers, technology integration, AI/ML-enabled learning solutions, big data analytics, and promotion of multilingual and inclusive learning platforms.

“This collaboration marks a major step toward achieving NEP 2020's vision of accessible and inclusive education through technology,” said NCERT Chairman Dinesh Saklani.
