Chennai: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has clarified that no key topics have been removed from the draft Class 9 Mathematics syllabus for CBSE schools, and said new content related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and algorithms has instead been introduced.

The draft syllabus was released by NCERT in July for feedback from teachers, students, parents and educationists.

Following reports claiming that several important sections had been completely removed from the proposed syllabus, NCERT issued a clarification rejecting the claims.

According to NCERT, the draft is intended to seek feedback from stakeholders and is not the final syllabus. The final version will be prepared after considering the feedback received and is expected to be released in October.

NCERT said no key topics had been removed from the draft Mathematics syllabus.

The council said changes had been made to promote conceptual understanding among students instead of encouraging rote learning.

It also highlighted the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence and said a new chapter on 'algorithms' had been included in the Mathematics curriculum.

NCERT is responsible for developing the curriculum and textbooks followed by CBSE-affiliated schools.

The clarification comes as schools and parents examine the proposed changes ahead of the implementation of the revised Class 9 curriculum.
