New Delhi: More than 2.42 lakh candidates on Sunday appeared for the NEET-PG exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for admission to various postgraduate medical courses.

The exam was held in a single shift on a computer-based platform across 301 cities and 1,052 test centres, official sources said. This is the largest computer-based exam in India in terms of number of candidates conducted in a single shift.

The NBEMS engaged over 2,200 faculty members from various medical colleges and accredited hospitals to ensure zero tolerance towards use of unfair means.

It wrote to chief secretaries and DGPs of all states to ensure adequate law and order, cyber security and uninterrupted power supply at all test centres. Assistance was also sought from district administration and police.

To prevent cyber scams at test centres, the board took assistance from the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Around 300 cyber commandos were deployed at various, especially sensitive, centres to prevent cheating, officials said.

NBEMS deployed more than 200 personnel at its office to continuously monitor live CCTV feeds from all test centres in real time. Senior faculty members, deans and directors of medical colleges and members of the NBEMS governing body visited exam centres as part of flying squads.

Mobile signals at all test centres were blocked by installing mobile jammers.

NEET-PG is held for admission to various postgraduate medical courses such as MD, MS and PG diploma.
