Tiruchirappalli: Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Thursday said that a new curriculum, aligned with the state education policy, will be introduced for Classes 1 to 8 from the 2027-28 academic year.

Speaking to reporters here, the Minister said a 13-member expert committee has been constituted to frame the revised curriculum, which will emphasise preparing students for competitive examinations and strengthening their scientific and technological knowledge.

“The new curriculum will come into force from the 2027-28 academic year,” he said, adding that the initiative aims to enhance learning outcomes and make students future-ready.

The Minister further said that grants have been sanctioned to establish 13 new government schools across the state, with admissions expected to commence in the forthcoming academic year. “Initially, the schools will operate from available halls and local facilities. Later, dedicated buildings will be constructed,” he added.

He also announced that a tender will soon be floated to install surveillance cameras at the entrances of government schools to ensure student safety
