Pauls Valley (US): A high school principal in Oklahoma was shot in the leg after confronting an armed intruder on campus, authorities said.

Pauls Valley High School principal Kirk Moore is in stable condition and no students were injured in the incident, officials said. The suspect, a 20-year-old former student, has been taken into custody, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities said Moore and other staff members acted swiftly after spotting the individual entering the school with a firearm. During the confrontation, the suspect fired multiple rounds, injuring the principal.

Officials credited the prompt action of the school staff with preventing a potentially more serious incident.

Kevin Stitt praised Moore's response, calling it brave and instrumental in protecting students, and said he was praying for his recovery.

Pauls Valley, a town located about 96 km south of Oklahoma City, has a population of around 6,000.
