Puducherry: Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, Prof. P. Prakash Babu, on Tuesday said paramedics are the backbone of the healthcare system, playing a crucial role in building a healthier India.

Addressing the graduation ceremony at Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College, an affiliated institution of Pondicherry University, Prof. Babu, who was the Chief Guest, conferred degrees upon the graduating batch and delivered the keynote address.

Calling the ceremony a significant milestone not only for the students but also for their parents, he said, "Today is more than just a ceremony. It is a celebration of years of hard work, commitment, compassion, and learning. Each one of you has taken the path less travelled — one that demands sacrifice, discipline, and a relentless commitment to serving others."

Highlighting the role of paramedics in the healthcare system, the Vice-Chancellor noted that they are often the first responders in emergencies and a source of strength during recovery. “You are not just supporting doctors — you are the backbone of the healthcare system. From nurses providing care in hospital wards, to physiotherapists aiding recovery, and lab technicians ensuring accurate diagnoses — your work truly transforms lives,” he said.

Prof. Babu also congratulated the faculty and parents for their guidance and sacrifices. "Today's celebration belongs to you as well," he added.

The event was part of the University's efforts to recognise the contribution of healthcare professionals in achieving the vision of 'Viksit Bharat@2047'.
