New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Divya Deshmukh for clinching the FIDE Women's World Chess Championship 2025 title, lauding her achievement as a moment of pride and inspiration for the youth.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi described the final match as a “historic” one, featuring two exceptional Indian players — Divya Deshmukh and Koneru Humpy.

“Proud of the young Divya Deshmukh on becoming FIDE Women's World Chess Champion 2025. Congratulations to her for this remarkable feat, which will inspire several youngsters,” he said.

The Prime Minister also praised Grandmaster Koneru Humpy for her consistent and commendable performance throughout the championship.

“Koneru Humpy has also displayed immense prowess throughout the championship. Best wishes to both players for their future endeavours,” Modi added.

The 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh's triumph marks a significant milestone in Indian chess history, as she becomes one of the youngest to secure the women's world title. The all-Indian final underlines the country's growing dominance in international chess, particularly among women players.

This latest victory adds to India's rising profile in global chess, coming on the heels of strong performances by young talents across various formats and age groups.
