New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated the government's commitment to bolstering the maritime sector and port infrastructure, highlighting their pivotal role in India's development.

Greeting the nation on the occasion of National Maritime Day, Modi took to microblogging platform X to recall India's rich maritime legacy and the sector's contribution to nation-building.

"Today, on National Maritime Day, we recall India's rich maritime history and the role played by this sector in nation-building. We will continue to strengthen the maritime sector and our ports for India's progress," the Prime Minister said in a post.

National Maritime Day is observed annually on April 5 to commemorate the maiden voyage of the first Indian-owned ship, SS Loyalty, from Mumbai to London in 1919.
