Puducherry: Pondicherry University, in collaboration with the Government of India's Capacity Building Commission (CBC), has conducted a three-day Master Trainers Training Workshop under the Rashtriya Karmayogi Large Scale Jan Seva Programme on campus from July 31 to August 2.

The programme is part of Mission Karmayogi - a flagship national initiative aimed at transforming around 1.5 crore government officials across the Centre, States and local bodies into a future-ready, citizen-centric bureaucracy. The workshop trained faculty members and non-teaching staff from Central Universities who, after certification, will serve as master trainers to cascade the training to peers in their respective institutions.

Inaugurating the programme, Dr Jitendra Kumar Tripathi, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), underlined the driving role universities are expected to play in national capacity-building missions. Prof P Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, in his presidential address said higher education institutions must proactively contribute to building an efficient, accountable, and reform-oriented public service architecture aligned with Indian ethos.

Delivering the special address, Dr Diksha Rajput, Joint Secretary, CBC, highlighted that embedding sewa bhaav (spirit of service) in governance through structured training initiatives was essential for long-term transformational impact.

Prof P G Arul, Director (i/c), UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre and workshop coordinator, welcomed attendees and emphasised Puducherry's emerging prominence as a centre for capacity-building programmes. The workshop was conducted by Dr K Srujana, Assistant Professor, UGC-MMTTC.

Senior university officials including Prof D Lazar, Finance Officer, Dr M Vijayakumar, University Librarian, Prof P Natarajan, Dean - School of Management, and Prof M Shuaib Mohamed Haneef, Director, EMMRC, were also present.

The workshop concluded this evening after successful completion of the training modules.
