Puducherry: Pondicherry University has registered notable progress in global university rankings, securing a position in the 601-800 band in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 and the 1201-1400 band in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (PIB), the THE Impact Rankings 2025 saw participation from a record 2,526 universities across over 130 countries, including 135 from India. Pondicherry University, which has been part of these rankings since 2019, improved its score to 65.6-70.2 this year, up from 64.5-69.8 last year.

The university earned high marks in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 'Life on Land' (rank 101-200), 'No Poverty' (301-400), and 'Gender Equality' (401-600), reflecting its commitment to global sustainability goals.

In the QS World University Rankings 2026, which evaluated 8,467 institutions from 106 countries, only 54 Indian universities secured a place. Pondicherry University showed improved performance across all metrics, particularly in Sustainability, International Research Network, and secured a global rank of 545 in 'Citations per Faculty'.

In the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025, the university achieved a global position of 820 and ranked 29th within India.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu congratulated the faculty, SDG coordinators, staff, and students for their efforts and urged them to continue working collectively to elevate the University's global presence.
