Puducherry: Pondicherry University celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a series of events showcasing national pride between August 13 and 15.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu hoisted the national flag on Friday and delivered the Independence Day address, recalling the sacrifices made for the country's freedom and urging the academic community to contribute to nation-building.

The celebrations began on August 13 with a human chain formed on campus as part of the Centre's “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign to promote national unity and patriotism. Students, faculty, and administrative staff enthusiastically participated in the event.

On August 14, the university observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, following the University Grants Commission's guidelines. The programme included an exhibition and the release of a video to pay tribute to the victims of Partition and highlight the pain and suffering endured by millions during the historic event.

The Independence Day function was attended by key officials, including Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Director (Studies), Prof. Clement Sagaradja Loudes, Director (Culture), Prof. Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar (i/c), Prof. D. Lazar, Finance Officer (i/c), Prof. Sadanatha G. Swami, Controller of Examinations, and Prof. Vijayakumar, Librarian, besides deans, heads of departments, faculty, staff, scholars and students.

The three-day programme concluded with renewed calls for unity and a commitment to academic excellence in service of the nation.
