Omalur: The Indian Students' Union staged a protest in front of Salem Periyar University on Tuesday against the University Grants Commission's (UGC) revised syllabus for Commerce, Anthropology, Economics, Mathematics, Physical Education, Geography, Chemistry, Home Science, and Political Science.

The protesters, led by District President Darwin, claimed that the new syllabus reflects discrimination dating back 2,000 years.

They raised slogans against the UGC and burnt a copy of the revised syllabus, which was later extinguished by Karupur police.

The union demanded that the UGC revoke the new syllabus, asserting that it undermines the interests of students and perpetuates historical bias.
