Chandigarh: The Punjab government has extended the deadline for students to obtain and update digitised birth certificates on the Unified Student Registration Portal for the 2026-27 academic session, School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Thursday.
Under the revised schedule, Class 8 students who do not possess digitised birth certificates have until October 30, 2026, to obtain the document and upload it to the portal.
Students of Classes 9 and 10 have been allowed to complete corrections and updates to their records until the registration process for the next academic session.
Bains said the extension was intended to ensure that no student is denied admission or faces difficulties because of delays in documentation.
He said the decision reflects the Bhagwant Mann government's commitment to digital reforms in school education while addressing practical issues faced by students and parents.
"Our government is committed to creating a paperless, transparent and efficient education system through the Unified Student Registration Portal, while ensuring that procedural issues do not become an obstacle to a child's education," the minister said.
He directed school heads to coordinate with parents to ensure that the registration process is completed within the revised timelines.
According to the state government, the move is part of its broader efforts to strengthen digital governance in the education sector while safeguarding students' interests.
