Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has directed the authorities to set up an expert panel to examine if an MBBS student, who lost her vision in an accident, can be allowed to continue her studies.
Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand issued the order on August 12 while hearing a plea by Ankita Singodia, who became 100 per cent blind after a road accident in April 2017.
The petitioner had joined MBBS in 2014 and completed two years before the accident. She was barred from continuing on the grounds that the course requires practical training in surgery and clinical procedures.
Seeking permission to resume studies, she moved the court. The court asked the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) to form a committee to suggest possible methods for her to complete the remaining course.
Her counsel said a medical board in 2020 recommended allowing her to pursue the course, but another board later opposed the move, citing inability to discharge a doctor's duties effectively.
