Chennai: Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, held an outreach programme in Chennai on Saturday, presenting its specialised courses in national security to students and aspirants from Tamil Nadu.

Highlighting its diverse offerings, the university showcased opportunities in fields such as SMART policing, maritime law, forensic science, cyber security, and behavioural sciences. Officials underlined the strategic importance of Tamil Nadu as a coastal hub, encouraging youth to consider careers in maritime and coastal security.

Addressing the media, Ankur Sharma, Director (I/c), School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies, RRU, quoted a verse from the Thirukkural underscoring the role of security in nation-building.

He noted that RRU is unique in offering focused education and training for careers in national security, blending academic excellence with real-world expertise through seasoned professionals, including retired Coast Guard chiefs and senior police officers.

Sharma also pointed to the emerging opportunities in port governance and maritime law, especially with initiatives like the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor and expansion of minor ports in Tamil Nadu. He encouraged students to explore RRU's LL.M. programmes tailored for these sectors.

Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Bimal N. Patel, a member of India's National Security Advisory Board and the UN International Law Commission, RRU has grown into a national and global centre for security education.

Admissions for UG and PG programmes are open till May 1 and June 30, respectively.
