Chennai: The Regional Office of the National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, conducted a Regional Training Camp on April 11 for the 80th Round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) focusing on the 'Comprehensive Modular Survey on Education' (CMS-E). The training session was held at the NSO office premises in Shastri Bhawan, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The CMS-E will be conducted from April to June 2025, alongside the ongoing year-long survey on Household Social Consumption: Health, which commenced on January 1, 2025. While the health survey is being carried out jointly by NSO and State Directorates of Economics & Statistics (DESs), the education component will be handled solely by NSO.
The camp was inaugurated by Shri Manohar R, Deputy Director General, NSO, Chennai, who emphasized the significance of data-driven policymaking and the crucial role of accurate and timely data collection. He urged field staff to adhere to rigorous standards and foster coordination with local authorities for smooth implementation. Shri Boby Thomas Mathews, Assistant Director, welcomed the participants, while Shri S. Balaji, Assistant Director, and other senior officials also attended.
The CMS-E will gather data on household expenditure related to school education and private coaching, covering both formal and non-formal education. The survey excludes only remote villages in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The public is encouraged to cooperate with NSO field officials, ensuring credible data for national development. All collected data will remain strictly confidential.
