Chennai: Employment opportunities in high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are growing rapidly, and the Central Government is providing quality training to students and youth, Union Minister of State for Education and Skill Development Jayant Chowdhury said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a skill development awareness seminar organized in Chennai, Chowdhury, addressing participants via video conference, said the National Council for Vocational Education and Training aims to strengthen skill development in line with the National Education Policy. He stressed that vocational training alongside formal education is essential to bridge the gap between education and employment.

He noted that India's rich skills range from traditional craftsmanship to advanced technological innovation. “Growth and opportunities are concentrated in high-tech sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, services, AI, semiconductors. The central government is providing quality training in areas such as artificial intelligence, drone technology, and cybersecurity through premier institutions including IITs and IIMs,” Chowdhury added.

Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department Secretary Veeraraghava Rao said the state is leading in various industries, including the automobile sector, and highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between educational and industrial institutions. He cited the 'I am the First' project as an example of effective skill development training yielding positive results.
