Chennai: SSN College of Engineering in Chennai will discontinue admissions from the 2026-27 academic year following approval for a phased closure granted by Anna University and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the institution has said.

The decision is part of a planned merger with Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNUC), which operates from a neighbouring campus. The integration will be carried out gradually, ensuring that existing students can complete their programmes without disruption.

The college has informed prospective applicants that it will no longer accept admission applications and has advised students to apply to similar programmes offered by the SSN School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar University Chennai. A set of frequently asked questions has also been released to address concerns of parents and students.

At present, the college has over 4,800 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. Officials clarified that all enrolled students will continue under the existing academic framework and will receive degrees awarded by Anna University, as the closure will take place in phases. No fresh intake will be allowed from the 2026-27 session.

Students seeking admission to BTech and MTech programmes at Shiv Nadar University Chennai will be required to clear an entrance examination followed by an interview.

The college currently functions as an autonomous institution affiliated with Anna University, with a majority of seats filled through state counselling. The existing fee structure and faculty arrangements for current students will remain unchanged, officials said.
