Chennai: Stella Maris College won the first prize in the quiz contest titled “Road to the White House: U.S. Elections 2016” conducted by the U.S. Consulate General Chennai at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women on Wednesday, 21 Sept 2016.

Loyola College won the second prize and VIT finished third. U.S. Consulate General Chennai, Public Affairs Officer Ariel H. Pollock distributed prizes to the winners.

As many as 70 students from 35 city colleges including IIT, SRM, and other leading institutions took part in the quiz contest.

The quiz contest was part of the series of events that is being organized by the U.S. Consulate General Chennai in the run-up to the 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections.

Winners List:

I Prize: Albertina Nithya B & Susan Joseph, M.A. International studies, Stella Maris College

II Prize: Sreekanth, H and John George O’Coutho, 2nd year B.Sc. Physics, Loyola College

III Prize:  Varun Gajedragadker, B.Tech Computer Science & Engineering & Rahul Roy, B.Tech Civil Engineering, VIT University, Vellore

IV Prize:  Piyush Kumar and Sannihit, Integrated M.A. (Development Studies), IIT Madras

V Prize:  Sidharth M.P and Jayakumar Madala, B.A. Journalism & Mass Communication, SRM University

Quiz master for the competition was Eric Lund, Cultural Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai.

Divided into three rounds, which included a preliminary written round, followed by oral semi-final, and final rounds; the quiz focused on general knowledge of American elections and political processes, personalities including presidents, vice presidents and other senior leaders, history, politics, government and current affairs.
