Chennai: Students of constituent colleges under the University of Madras are reportedly facing serious difficulties in securing admission to higher education programmes due to the university's failure to issue semester-wise mark sheets for the past three years.
The University of Madras oversees more than 150 constituent institutions, including government, aided, and self-financing colleges. Except for autonomous colleges, the university is responsible for collecting examination fees, conducting exams, and issuing mark sheets.
However, students allege that since 2022, the university has not released subject-wise mark sheets after each semester. Instead, it issues only the final degree certificates upon completion of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Adding to their woes, the university mandates that applicants for its postgraduate or research programmes must submit detailed mark sheets — a requirement that its own constituent college students are unable to meet.
This contradiction has left many students stranded, unable to apply for higher studies either within the University of Madras or at other institutions. Students have urged the authorities to take immediate action to issue pending mark sheets and resolve the issue affecting their academic progression.
