Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University has withdrawn the provisional affiliation granted for additional student admissions to three private law colleges for allegedly admitting students without mandatory approvals.

In a statement, the university said Tulasi Women's Law College, Thoothukudi, S. Thangapazham Law College, Tenkasi, and Mugil Law College - Kanniyakumari were granted provisional affiliation during the previous academic year.

However, the colleges did not obtain approval from the Bar Council of India (BCI), which is mandatory before admitting students, it said.

The university said the three colleges were not included in the centralised counselling process for the previous academic year. Despite this, they admitted students, violating university regulations.

Based on a resolution passed by the university Syndicate, the provisional affiliation granted for additional student admissions to the three institutions has been cancelled and further action will be initiated against them, the statement said.

The university also said it would not consider the application submitted by Tulasi Women's Law College seeking extension of its provisional affiliation for the current academic year.
