Chennai: The third round of counselling for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu, conducted under the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process by Anna University, has resulted in the provisional allotment of seats to 64,629 students, officials said on Monday.
The current round of counselling began on August 7 for students seeking admission to government, government-aided and affiliated engineering colleges across the state. Under TNEA, seats are allotted based on Class 12 marks, reservation norms and candidates' preferred choices filled during counselling.
According to officials, students allotted seats in this round must confirm their provisional allotment by 5 pm on Monday. Failure to confirm within the stipulated time will lead to forfeiture of the allotted seat.
The final allotment orders for this round will be issued on Tuesday. The TNEA process, which began earlier this year, has been conducted in multiple phases to accommodate various categories, including general counselling, vocational stream, and supplementary rounds for those who missed earlier phases.
Engineering education in Tamil Nadu continues to draw large numbers of applicants, with a majority opting for streams such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering. Officials said demand for emerging technology programmes such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cybersecurity has also been on the rise.
The next phase of counselling will be announced after the completion of the current allotment process, they added.
