Coimbatore: First phase counselling for admissions to government arts and science colleges in the district will continue for two more days till Wednesday, education department officials said.

The counselling process, which began on June 2 following the release of merit rankings, had completed special category admissions and general category counselling on June 4-5.

Over 43,000 students have applied for admissions to government colleges in the current academic year, with applications accepted from May 7-29, officials said.

Coimbatore Government Arts College received the highest number of applications at 33,000, while Government Women's Arts and Science College, Puliyakulam received 10,723 applications for 410 available seats.

Students who secured cut-off marks between 240-269 for subjects other than Tamil and English are eligible to participate in Tuesday's counselling session, officials added.

On Wednesday, counselling will be conducted for BC and MBC category students with Tamil subject cut-off marks of 55-74, and those with English subject cut-off marks of 50-59.

The extended counselling aims to accommodate remaining eligible candidates and fill vacant seats across various courses, department sources said.
