Mumbai: The Government High School, Gerugambakkam, Chennai, emerged as the national champion in the 1st L&T National STEM Challenge held in Mumbai on February 3rd. The competition, part of L&T's CSR initiative, aimed to promote STEM education among school children across India. The event showcased talent from various regions, with Government High School, Velappanchavudi (Chennai), and Shree Kanchanlal Mamawala Surat Municipal Corporation School (Hazira, Gujarat) securing the runners-up positions. Over 6,000 students participated, with 24 teams advancing to the national challenge. Winning schools received cash rewards and prizes for upgrading science labs and promoting STEM education. L&T Chairman & MD, Mr. S N Subrahmanyan, emphasized the importance of STEM education and praised the young innovators' creativity. The challenge unfolded through three levels, involving intra-school competitions, regional STEM fests, and a national challenge. L&T volunteers provided mentorship and guidance to students, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.
