Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin will release the State Education Policy (SEP) here on Friday, reaffirming the state's opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) of the Centre.

The policy, prepared by a panel headed by retired High Court Judge Justice D Murugesan and submitted in 2024, will be unveiled at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Kotturpuram.

The DMK-led government has been consistently opposing the NEP, citing concerns over social justice and language imposition, and has refused to implement it despite alleged financial repercussions.

Tamil Nadu has moved the Supreme Court, accusing the Centre of withholding around Rs 2,200 crore in funds as a consequence of its non-compliance with the NEP. The state has termed the move unconstitutional and arbitrary, claiming that education funding has been unjustly linked to the policy's implementation.

The release of the SEP is being seen as a major step in the state's effort to chart an independent course in education policy.
