New Delhi: Two Indian students have earned the prestigious Student Oscars, a recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This year's competition saw 2,683 submissions from 738 institutions worldwide, with only 15 students selected as winners. Among them are two Indian filmmakers.
Rishabh Raj Jain, a recent graduate of New York University, won the award for his documentary A Dream Called Khushi.
The film delves into the life of a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh who pursues his dream of studying in Canada despite significant challenges.
Jain credited his success to his team, stating, “It takes a village to make a film. This is a collective achievement, and I am thrilled to showcase South Asian stories on a global platform.”
Similarly, Akshit Kumar, a film design student from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, also claimed the Student Oscar. His film now qualifies to compete in the 2024 Oscars for Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film categories.
Both winners are receiving widespread praise from the Indian film industry, with congratulations pouring in for their remarkable achievements.
