Chennai: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday advised students to ensure the accreditation of educational institutions before enrolling in online degree courses.
In a statement, the UGC said that admissions to online, distance, and open education programmes in higher education institutions will continue until October 15. Students can check the list of accredited institutions on the UGC's Distance Education Bureau website at https://deb.ugc.ac.in.
The Commission noted that Salem Periyar University, Suresh Gyan Vihar, Faculty of Dentistry, has been barred from offering online education for the academic years 2024-25 and 2025-26. Students were urged to verify accreditation before joining any online programme.
The UGC also reminded that certain courses, including engineering, medicine, physiotherapy, dentistry, and architecture, cannot be offered through online or distance learning modes.
