Interested parties can provide their suggestions on the University Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP) of UGC until January 28, 2024.The UGC initiated guidelines for the implementation of the Indian government's reservation policy in 2006. These guidelines, currently in operation, are accessible on the UGC website. To address the evolving landscape and adhere to constitutional provisions for the welfare of marginalised sections, the UGC has formed an expert committee tasked with reviewing and updating the 2006 guidelines.EXPERT COMMITTEE AND STAKEHOLDER INPUTThe UGC expert committee aims to align the guidelines with recent office orders, memorandums, and court decisions.Soliciting comments and suggestions from stakeholders will ensure a comprehensive framework that upholds the constitutional provisions benefiting weaker sections of society.EXPANSION OF RESERVATIONSIn 2006, the Union government extended reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in substantially funded higher education institutions. The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006, increased OBC reservations to 27%, bringing the overall educational reservations to 49.5%, inclusive of the existing 22.5% quota for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
