Chennai: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has cautioned students to be wary of institutions that promise short-term courses and high-paying jobs after graduation.

A recent study by the UGC revealed that fake universities and colleges are operating in several states, including Kerala and Puducherry. These institutions often advertise recognized degrees and diplomas, charge low fees, and guarantee lucrative employment, despite lacking official recognition.

The UGC statement emphasized that recognition is granted only after examining the authenticity of higher education institutions. Students are advised to verify accreditation on the UGC-AICTE websites and to consult alumni to confirm the credibility of any institution before enrolling.

“These fake colleges mislead students with attractive offers. Verification is crucial to avoid falling prey to such scams,” the statement said.
