New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will mark its 100th year with a year-long series of events and initiatives beginning October 1, 2025, and concluding on October 1, 2026, the commission said on Tuesday.
The decision was taken at a recent meeting chaired by UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar. Established on October 1, 1926, following the provisions of the Government of India Act, 1919, and recommendations of the Lee Commission (1924), the Public Service Commission was renamed the Federal Public Service Commission in 1937 and became the Union Public Service Commission with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950.
“Since its inception, UPSC has been a symbol of transparency, fairness and meritocracy, ensuring the selection of the most deserving candidates for senior-level positions in government services,” Kumar said.
As part of the celebrations, the commission will unveil a centenary logo and tagline reflecting its service to the nation. Several new initiatives and reforms are also planned for launch during the year.
Kumar said inputs were sought from employees to make them integral to the celebrations. “We have received some truly valuable suggestions to work on,” he noted.
He added that the centenary was an occasion to reflect on UPSC's legacy, assess areas for improvement and chart a roadmap for the next 100 years. “Our endeavour is to continue deploying the best human resources in the nation-building process,” Kumar said.
