Mumbai: A court here on Thursday denied police further remand of a 40-year-old woman school teacher, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor student, and instead sent her in 14-day judicial custody.

"The investigating officer asked for further remand, but there is no reasonable ground for extension of police custody," said Sabina Malik, special judge for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, in her order.
The English teacher, who is married, allegedly used to take the 16-year-old boy to luxury hotels.
Arrested last week following a complaint filed by his parents, the woman was produced before the special POCSO court at the end of her remand on Thursday. Police sought her further custody for probe.
As per the police, the woman became attracted to the boy during meetings for the school's annual function in December 2023.
When the student developed acute anxiety following the alleged abuse, she allegedly gave him some anti-anxiety pills. She would also get him drunk during their meetings, the police claimed.
The boy cleared his Class 10 exam a few months ago and left the school, but slipped into depression.
