Over time, the education system and methods of learning have evolved. However, the fundamentals remain constant. In any field, mastering the basics is crucial for achieving success.
Recently, the rise of artificial intelligence has been anticipated to revolutionize various sectors. Yet, no level of advanced technology can replace the importance of foundational knowledge, especially in professions like medicine. This is true across all fields, and today's students should prioritize learning the basics without compromise.
Compulsory Passing: A major concern
While making exams compulsory up to Class 5 is reasonable, as children often lack a full understanding of exams at this stage, extending this policy to Class 8 could negatively impact their future education. In my view, it might even reduce their interest in learning.
Expecting students to suddenly excel academically from Class 9 onwards, and perform well in competitive exams like NEET and JEE, after having passed without effort until Class 8, seems unrealistic. Students need to grasp the importance of exams starting from Class 6 to perform effectively in higher grades.
Additionally, the current 35 percent passing criteria in school exams should be revisited. Treating the remaining 65 percent as failure creates an issue that shouldn't be acceptable. Clearing NEET doesn't guarantee a medical seat for all, only top scorers secure a place.
My advice to students: make the most of your school years. A deep understanding of the basics is key to success in any subject.
