The UNESCO International Literacy Awards recognize global efforts to promote literacy.

Importance: Initiated to increase global literacy rates, these prizes are awarded annually based on a specific theme. This year's theme is "Multilingual Education for Mutual Understanding and Peace."

UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize
Sponsored by the Republic of Korea, this prize promotes mother tongue-based literacy development.

UNESCO Confucius Literacy Prize
Sponsored by the Chinese government, this prize focuses on promoting literacy in rural areas and among out-of-school youth through process education and improving technological environments.

Eligibility: Individuals, educational institutions, and organizations that promote literacy are eligible to apply.
