India is now moving beyond being a major consumer of chips to becoming a significant centre for chip design, semiconductor manufacturing and advanced electronics.

What do NITI Aayog and PIB say?
NITI Aayog identifies chip design, advanced packaging, power semiconductors, photonics and AI hardware as key growth areas.

The government's Semicon 2.0 programme aims to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem and develop 1 lakh additional engineers. PIB has also highlighted VLSI as a high-potential field, with specialised B.Tech and diploma programmes introduced through AICTE.
