Chennai: The Central Government implements special scholarship schemes to support higher education for women and persons with disabilities.
Under the Pragati Scheme, girl students from households with an annual income below ₹8 lakh can receive financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 per year. Similarly, the Shaksham-Swanath Scheme offers scholarships of ₹50,000 annually to differently-abled and underprivileged students pursuing engineering and diploma courses, significantly benefiting these groups.
For the academic year 2024-25, the applications of 1,700 students from Tamil Nadu remain pending due to incomplete information or other procedural delays.
To address this, the Directorate of Technical Education has extended the deadline for submitting the required information until November 30.
In a circular issued to colleges, Directorate Commissioner Abraham emphasized the importance of expediting the process to ensure students receive their scholarships without further delay.
The extension provides a critical opportunity for students and institutions to resolve discrepancies and secure much-needed financial assistance.
