Chennai: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and OPPO India have launched the 'Generation Green' campaign, a 100-day programme aimed at promoting green skills among youth through 5,000 internships across Indian colleges.

Managed by 1M1B (One Million for One Billion), this initiative aligns with LinkedIn's Global Green Skills Report 2023, which notes that job seekers with green skills are 29% more likely to be hired.

AICTE Chairman Dr. TG Sitharam emphasized the program's role in equipping students to address environmental challenges and contribute to sustainability. OPPO India, the first electronics manufacturer to offer internships through AICTE, supports the initiative as part of AICTE's 1 Crore Internships mission and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Open to students from all streams, the internships include activities in project management, sustainability practices, communication, collaboration, research, and data analysis. Participants will also take the Green Pledge and engage in awareness sessions and Green Day celebrations.

Rakesh Bhardwaj, Head of Public Affairs, OPPO India, highlighted the initiative's alignment with India's Net-Zero vision, aiming to influence at least 10 lakh students nationwide.

Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar, Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE, noted the importance of engaging youth in effective e-waste management.

Students can apply via the AICTE internship portal at www.iamgenerationgreen.com, with successful interns receiving certificates jointly accredited by AICTE, OPPO India, and 1M1B.
