Chennai: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is hosting the International Conference on Quantum Communication, Measurement & Computing (QCMC 2024) from August 26 to 30, marking the first time the prestigious event is held in India.

This 16th edition of the conference is organized by IIT Madras's Center for Quantum Information, Communication and Computing (CQuICC) and is taking place at the IIT Madras Research Park.

QCMC, established in 1990, is a leading global platform for discussing advancements in quantum technology.

The conference covers a wide range of topics, including quantum computing, communication, cryptography, and sensing.

It is supported by IIT Madras, Mphasis F1 Foundation, and KLA.

Dr. Ajai Chowdhury, Chairman of the National Quantum Mission, highlighted the significance of hosting QCMC in India during the opening address. He noted that India has a robust quantum research community, with about 600 scientists and numerous startups. The National Quantum Mission aims to support quantum research through thematic parks focused on computing, communications, sensing, and materials, with plans to fund 10-15 promising startups in the near future.

IIT Madras is a key player in advancing India's quantum research. Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, expressed excitement about the conference, emphasizing its potential to solve complex problems through quantum technologies.

The conference features talks from leading experts and aims to foster collaboration across disciplines, accelerate quantum research applications, and build international partnerships. It includes 18 invited talks, 20 contributed talks, and over 100 poster presentations from early-career researchers.
